There’s a scene in Ghostbusters when
Venkman tries to convince the Mayor to let them try to deal with the ghosts
threatening the Big Apple. Here is how it went:
Zeddemore: I'm Winston Zeddemore, Your Honor.
I've only been with the company for a couple of weeks, but I gotta tell you:
these things are real. Since I joined these men, I have seen shit that'll turn
you white!
Venkman: Well, you can believe Mr. Pecker...
Peck: My name is "Peck."
Venkman: ...or you could accept the fact that
this city is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions.
Mayor: What do you mean, "Biblical"?
Stantz: What he means is Old Testament, Mr.
Mayor. Real wrath-of-God type stuff!
Venkman: Exactly.
Stantz: Fire and brimstone coming down from
the skies! Rivers and seas boiling!
Spengler: Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes,
volcanoes!
Zeddemore: The dead rising from the grave!
Venkman: Human sacrifice! Dogs and cats living
together! Mass hysteria!
Mayor: Enough, I get the point! And what if
you're wrong?
Venkman: If I'm wrong, then nothing happens!
We go to jail; peacefully, quietly. We'll enjoy it! But if I'm right,
and we can stop this thing... Lenny, you will have saved the
lives of millions of registered voters. [Mayor slightly smiles and
the Archbishop of New York nods in agreement]
Walter Peck: I don't believe you're seriously
considering listening to these men!
Mayor: [contemplates; to officers while
pointing at Peck] Get him outta here.
This year we will see a convergence
of political forces that very well may be a disaster of Biblical proportions
and it too will involve ghosts.
So far two ghosts have emerged on
the world scene. They have taken possession of two key leaders. The first is Henry
VIII and the second is Vlad the Impaler.
It’s true. Donald Trump is a reincarnation
of Henry VIII and Vladimir Putin is a reincarnation of Vlad the Impaler. I am
taking the conservative position in regards to Putin. There is mounting
evidence to suggest that Putin is, in fact, Vlad. If you doubt this, Google it.
Regardless of whether or not Putin
is a reincarnation of Vlad or the actual Vlad, we are about to see one of those
historic matchups that people always allude to when it comes to sporting events.
What if Muhammad Ali had fought Joe Louis? Get the picture?
Trump is a world class fop. He was
born to wealth and has exploited everybody he has come in contact with. He lies
about most everything and cannot endure anybody denying him or disagreeing with
him or saying “no” to him. He is the kind of “tough guy” who has never actually
been in a real fight. He lives in a gilded penthouse. He has his name on
everything. He brags about assaulting women. He is willing to bring the country
to ruin on a whim. He is Henry VIII.
Putin is an actual “tough guy”. He
has no hesitation when it comes to killing people and he has the blood of
thousands on his hands. He is not a fop, he is a psychopath. He is also an
experienced politician who has played on the world stage for decades. He kills
when it suits him. He is Vlad.
Trump’s stupidity is no match for
Putin’s ruthlessness. Trump has likely been played by Putin for years. If we
ever get to see Trump’s actual tax returns, we may discover just how much he
has been compromised by his dealings with Russia.
Unfortunately for us, the only check
we have on Trump is Congress, but the Republican majority is too busy
salivating over the prospect of actually dismantling the government and
lowering taxes and doing away with the social safety net that has protected us
since FDR.
We have been in this same position
before. George W. Bush made a deal with a Republican Congress. That Republican Congress
left Bush alone to pursue his foreign policy and Bush left them alone to pursue
their domestic agenda. The country did not fare well. When Bush left office we
were on the verge of another Great Depression. Things looked bleak.
Trump and the Republican Congress
will pursue a two tier agenda. They will support each other on their different
domestic paths. Yes, Trump will have his domestic agenda and the Republican Congress
will have its domestic agenda. In addition to this, Trump will have his foreign
agenda and the Republican Congress will not. The exception to this may take
place in the Senate. If a bi-partisan opposition rises to frustrate Trump in
his desire to form a bromance with Putin, sparks might fly.
There is one other thing worth
mentioning. There is another ghost who has been trying to take over Donald
Trump and it has succeeded at times. It is the ghost of Nero. Indeed, Nero
and Henry VIII may have reached a degree of détente in regard to Trump. They may be sharing him
to varying degrees and in different arenas.
