Here We Go Again

Remember Watergate? Apparently our politicians do not.

The Trump campaign's involvement with Russian actors is not insignificant. The question of Russian interference with our election process in an effort to help Trump's campaign is no longer in dispute. What remains to be seen is whether or not a Republican Congress has the integrity and concern for national interest to do what is necessary under the circumstances.

Russian interference in our election is a major security threat to our nation. I would argue that the Trump organization's business practices also pose a major security threat to our nation and that those practices are not unrelated to the security threat to our nation posed by Russia.

Trump has been in office for all of six weeks. He has already had to remove his National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn, for lying about his contacts with Russian nationals. Yesterday Trump's Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, recused himself from investigating Russia's interference in our election because he, Sessions, had failed to disclose under oath his own involvement with Russian actors.

We have also found out that Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, met with Russian actors and Trump's son, Donald Trump, Jr., likely received a $50,000 speaking fee from a group with ties to Russia.

Add to this the fact the Trump is the first President in decades to refuse to release his tax returns and you have a scandal that is boiling over and spilling hot content all over the stove top, which in this case is our national government.

We need to stop this dead in its tracks. We cannot afford years of daily controversy. We have a country to run. We need a special prosecutor.

The Republican House Leadership is doing all it can to prevent an open, honest investigation of anything to do with this. There are Republican Senators who are advocating publically for an investigation, but the Republican Senate Leadership is not as enthusiastic about getting to the bottom of all this.

Abuse of power is not a partisan issue. It is a threat to our nation and our way of life. Clearly something is wrong here and the sooner we deal with it the better.

Thankfully, our latest members of Congress do not have to reinvent the wheel. They have an excellent, completely documented and videotaped playbook to guide them - Watergate.

Let's face it, we are not going to hear the truth from the Administration and Duplicitous Don is up to his eyeballs in financial conflicts that impact our national policy.

It's time for Russiagate.

Holy Moly!
