I have not always agreed with John. His choice of Palin as a running mate was one of the all-time worst political calls in our history. However, his loyalty to our country is above reproach.
As I write this, I am mindful of Winston Churchill. Winston had his share of trials and tribulations. He was an ever so willful boy. Who could have known, certainly not Winston, that he would be the one to face off with Hitler and Mussolini while the fate of his country and the world hung in the balance?
John is in the fight of his life right now. I am praying for him and his family. I think John is on his final journey. I'm not sure how long he has or what condition he is in.
Most people don't see death staring them in the face. John did during Vietnam and he is now again facing death during Trump.
John wanted to serve his country as President, but he was denied. He now has an opportunity to save his country from a rogue President and this time the choice is his alone.
Trump trashed McCain's service to his country. He said he didn't regard him as a "hero". Trump said, "I like people who weren’t captured."
Well Donald, John was captured and he spent years in the Hanoi Hilton. I know you can't understand that because you are a superficial fool who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
You also can't begin to understand how John came home and rebuilt his life and drew a personal line in the sand that he never crossed. John spoke out against torture at a very difficult time in our history.
I fear John has been captured once again. This time the enemy is cancer. Like before he will have to find the energy and the will to endure. Unlike before, this time he will probably succumb.
Trump's "alt right" supporters are already talking about John's bout with cancer as "godly justice". One said, "I'm pretty sure that God is punishing him."
What he can do now is choose how he will spend his remaining time with us. If he chooses to devote himself to his family or flying kites or eating ice cream sundaes, no one can fault him. He has already given above and beyond what most of us will ever have to give.
Imminent death can be liberating. It can free you of all base concerns. It can give you a final chance at making a difference and leaving your mark. For a warrior death has extended meaning.
I believe in God and I have lived my life believing that everything happens for the best. That's a hard path to take at times. I continue to take great comfort from Job.
If John chooses to go down fighting, he might just be able to free this country from the scourge of Trump. The Republican Congress and it's leadership has failed to rise to the occasion and rid us of Trump. God knows there are sufficient grounds.
John may just be being given the truest opportunity of a lifetime for anyone who loves their country. He may be the only person right now who can rally Congress and our people to remove Trump from office.
I'm not asking John to do anything. I'm just sharing a thought, an insight that came to me. What I wish for John is peace of mind and courage. What I wish for his family is comfort.
If you read this blog, you know I started it after having a Holy Moly moment when Trump's victory was announced on television. When I heard about John's illness I had another Holy Moly moment.
Unlike McConnell and Trump, I see John as more than a vital vote for a closely contested piece of legislation. I see John's potential. I see a man who can change the course of our history - a man whose unique life experiences and character have prepared him for a truly unique moment in history.
Be well John McCain. God bless you and your family. Thank you for your service to our country.
Holy Moly!
I have had the VERY SAME THOUGHTS! Not all of us are given the gift of knowing we will be gone from this earth soon. He may not choose to, or may not be able to, but what sweet justice it would be if he led us out of this crisis.
