In 1899, Ambrose Bierce wrote "Fantastic Fables". In Bierce's version of "The Hare And The Tortoise", the hare wins. Bierce liked to mix things up - make you think.
Donald Trump has certainly been the hare in American politics. He wiped out the Republican field during the primaries. As president he has created a whirlwind of controversy and intrigue.
Trump's biglyest controversy has to do with Russia and the role it played in our last elections. Trump's relationship/collusion with Russia goes back decades. Did Donald conspire with Russia to betray the United States? Is he a pawn of Putin? These questions must be answered.Robert Mueller is the Special Counsel investigating what really happened with Russia and Trump. He is steadfast and dogged in his pursuit of the "truth". He has been compared to the tortoise.
"An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge" is one of the most famous stories in American fiction. It was written by Bierce and initially published by "The San Francisco Examiner" in 1890.
Kurt Vonnegut said, "I consider anybody a twerp who hasn't read the greatest American short story, which is 'Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge,' by Ambrose Bierce." Don't be a twerp. If you haven't read the story maybe you should. It's only 6 pages long. Just click on the link below Bierce's picture to open up a pdf version of it.Will Mueller the tortoise persevere or will Trump the hare manage to avoid all accountability? How will this story end? Mueller is slowly tightening the noose around Trump's neck. He has already secured 2 convictions and 4 indictments.
Can perseverance in the face of adversity save our Republic?
Will the new year begin with a Red Dawn rising because Trump succeeded in getting Mueller fired?
I believe Mueller will succeed in rooting out all Russian contamination from our government if he is not interfered with. However, with every passing day more and more damage is done to our country. It's like a termite infestation in a wood frame house - the longer it goes on the more damage is done. By the time you get around to killing the termites the house may no longer be livable or salvageable.
In the meantime, the Republican tax bill will result in the looting of our economy. Money will be super concentrated in the hands of the super wealthy. Even if the Democrats take both houses of Congress in 2018, they cannot undue that damage fast enough.
It was naive to think that the Republicans are concerned about losing seats in Congress in 2018. They don't want to, but they have a higher priority. A number of them will cash in during the looting and retire in luxury.
Of course there are a goodly amount of idiots in the Republican Congress. The local morons, the ones who had their campaigns funded by out of state donors, just wanted to go to Congress and didn't mind falling into lockstep with the leadership once they got there.
Things are bad. Even if we go through another Depression, the ultra wealthy will ride it out in luxury. If it took 30 years to recover, it wouldn't matter to them. And then there is the other possibility - the one you don't recover from.
If you sit there waiting to see how this all plays out, things will only get worse. Call your representatives in the House and Senate now. Vote in all elections. Educate yourself. This is the real world. Get your information from a reliable source, not from a celebrity.
Tell your elected representatives often that you want them to see to it that Mueller stays on the job. We are not just fighting to keep what's left of our Republic. We're fighting to take back what we've already lost - hopefully our house will still be livable/salvageable.
Holy Moly!
