Ricocheting Between The Bumpers

Ever play pinball? Talk about frenetic energy - lights flash, bells and buzzers and whistles going off, balls rocketing around and bumpers exploding. Playing pinball is akin to a Roman candle going off inside your brain.

There are few things to rival a good pinball machine when it comes to catching your attention and getting you hooked. Heroin comes to mind, but really, heroin?

Sometimes I see Donald Trump as heroin. His supporters seem more like addicts than free thinkers. Hell, they are the definition of self destructive - voting against their own best interests, ignoring facts, driven by some unimaginable, inexplicable craving. Hey, there are packets of heroin out there branded with Donald Trump.

Remember "Tommy" Remember "The Who"? Remember "Pinball Wizard"?

Trump is an evil sort of pinball wizard. He gets into the heads of his followers and they are hooked. They are mean and nasty and they don't care.

Trump is their messiah. Evangelical Christians hail him as the second coming.

Trump supporters put Trump first over country. They ignore treason. They make excuses for Trump's behavior toward Russia. They have no problem with Trump embracing Vladimir Putin. Hey, it's even okay with them if Trump "loves" Kim Jong-un.

How do you explain Trump? I see him as an anti-Christ. He is so thoroughly non-Christian in his words and deeds that only those possessed by demons cannot see it and don't care if they do.

Imagine being an actual pinball stuck in an endless back and forth between the bumpers. Imagine rocketing with no sense of direction, totally disoriented and having your senses overwhelmed and drowned out by the noise and the flashing lights. Imagine your government turning on you and destroying our environment. Imagine not being a Trump supporter and living in the United States.

Imagine never giving up. Imagine working to take back our government and restore some semblance of decency to our everyday lives and public discourse. Imagine organizing and succeeding and taking back the House.

Imagine being on the cusp of seeing real oversight on the part of Congress. Imagine seeing Mueller succeeding. Imagine seeing the New York State Attorney General holding Trump's feet to the fire. Hey, Christmas came early, right? After all this, what's a few more days? We're on a roll. Daddy needs a new pair of shoes and guess what?

Whoa, what just happened? Something shifted. Something no one thought would happen just went down. Yep, MF, Trump is lifting sanctions on Russia and has decided to withdraw our troops from Syria in a Tweet. Yep, no consultation with either our Congress or our military was required. Everyone is freaked, but there is at least one supporter out there.

Vladimir Putin says it's "the right thing to do". He refers to Trump as Donald and praises him. Meanwhile General James Mattis, the United States Secretary of Defense, is left wondering with the rest of us. He's rumored to be on his way out as well.

Trump's order to withdraw our troops from Syria was a total surprise. It caught everyone off guard. Even some of Trump's most loyal supporters were bewildered. In that regard it was much like Pearl Harbor or 9/11.

Make no mistake, this is not just another imbecilic act on the part of the moron in the White House. This could lead to unimaginable trouble in the Middle East. It might also be the end for Mattis - something we can ill afford. RU dreaming of a red Christmas?

Oh yeah, the Dow is still dropping and the nuclear negotiations with North Korea are totally deadlocked. The Wall Street Journal ran a story yesterday saying William Barr, Trump's pick for Attorney General, has been critical of Mueller's investigation and yesterday Mitch McConnell blocked a bill - a bill to protect Mueller's investigation - in the Senate for the third time.
