The Numbers Don't Lie

Yesterday Donald Trump hosted a White House reception for our congressional leaders. He began by telling them that he had actually won the popular vote by between 3 and 5 million votes. He blamed it on voter fraud. He had no proof. He made it up.

When he addressed the CIA the day after the Inauguration, he told them that 1.5 million people came to see him take the oath of office and that the press was lying about the amount. He had no proof. Once again he was making it up.

Later that day, Press Secretary Sean Spicer, made the same claim and also accused the press of "deliberately false reporting". The next day a contentious Kellyanne Conway defended "falsehoods" by saying they were "alternative facts".

Mr. Trump, you won the election, but you lost the popular vote by almost 3 million votes. Less people turned out to see you on Inauguration Day than did so on President Obama's Inauguration Day. The press is not conspiring against you.

Alternative facts are falsehoods. Liars use alternative facts. Everything is not a competition. Governing is about taking care of the country and its people. You and your minions are not bringing people together with these actions. You are creating dissent. Give it a rest. Stop exaggerating your numbers.

Does this have anything to do with what Stephen Colbert was talking about last March?
